About
Hofburg.org is a heritage and history site about the Hofburg, the imperial palace in Vienna, and its sister palace in Innsbruck, written in English.
The Hofburg was the Habsburgs' winter residence for more than six centuries, and it's still a working building. The Austrian Federal President works here. The OSCE meets here. The Spanish Riding School trains its Lipizzaners in the morning, and the Vienna Boys' Choir sings Mass in the chapel on Sundays.
Its story is spread across a dozen institutions and their separate sites, much of it in German. We read those, check them against each other, and tell it in one place: the Habsburgs who built each wing, the treasury and the collections, the squares and the rooms, and what's worth seeing when you're there.
It's for visitors planning a day in the old town, for readers of Habsburg history, and for anyone who keeps reading the name in the news and wants the building behind it.
Prices and opening hours carry the month we checked them. They change often, so treat them as a starting point and confirm with the official site before you go.
Hofburg.org is an independent site. It has no connection to the Republic of Austria, the Burghauptmannschaft, the museums, the Spanish Riding School, the event and congress centre in the palace, or any other body that works in the Hofburg. We don't sell tickets or book events. For those, go to the official sites.
